Cycling tour through Bangladesh (30 April – 08 May 2016)

In May there has been another cycling tour through Bangladesh. The group consisted of 11 participants including one Member of the Dutch parliament.

The group from the Netherlands contributed greatly to the “Fiets voor een Huis/Loop voor een Huis” events throughout the years. Since the beginning of “Fiets voor een Huis/Loop voor een Huis” the group raised enough money to build 47 houses in Bangladesh. IHS is very grateful for their support and hopes that they will continue their great work.

Willem Gees guided the group through Bangladesh. They cycled for around 160km in the working area of 2 of our partner NGO’s (MMS/SDS). They observed the excellent work done by IHS and the PNGO and the houses which are built with the help of IHS. The group also visited one of the Micro Finance groups to better understand the process of payment and to see how MF contributes to the social mobilisation of woman on village level.

Among other things the group also visited a brick kiln to experience the working conditions of these kilns and to see that this production process is very demanding for the people and the environment. This is exactly why IHS is working on a sustainable alternative being “Compressed Stabilised Earth Blocks” (CSEB).
